On October 31, 2025, at the Prof. Farid Kasmy Auditorium of the Physics Department, the Information Systems Study Program of Universitas Riau held a Guest Lecture on Selected Topics featuring Jauhar Arif Yulmawan, IT Upstream Application Manager of PHR Regional 1 – Sumatra (Pertamina Hulu Rokan), along with his team. This event served as an important opportunity for students to gain firsthand insight from industry practitioners regarding developments in modern technology and the challenges that come with them.

On this occasion, he delivered a presentation titled “IT–OT Convergence: Industry 4.0 or Die Hard 4.0,” which encouraged students to develop a deeper understanding of the convergence between Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT). This convergence has become a key factor in facing the modern industrial era dominated by digital systems, where physical operational systems and corporate information systems are now interconnected and increasingly interdependent.

The session began with the screening of a clip from the movie Die Hard 4.0 as an opener to build context and capture students’ attention. The film, released in 2007, was chosen because it already depicts cyberattacks capable of crippling critical infrastructure—an issue that has become even more relevant in today’s era of digitalization and automation. This approach effectively helped students understand the urgency of security in the industrial world.

Through the material presented, students were guided to understand that Industry 4.0 is not merely a trend, but a major transformation in the industrial world synonymous with smart manufacturing. All processes have been digitally integrated and supported by artificial intelligence, enabling real-time decision-making, improved productivity, flexibility, and efficiency in both production and distribution processes.

Another part of the presentation highlighted aspects of security and information system infrastructure as the main foundation for managing IT and OT integration. When machines, sensors, industrial networks, and business applications are interconnected, even small vulnerabilities can significantly impact company operations. Therefore, modern infrastructure must be designed with a defense-in-depth approach, strong network segmentation, continuous monitoring, and rapid, well-coordinated incident response capabilities. Cybersecurity is understood not only as a technical issue but also as an integral part of industrial operational sustainability.

This guest lecture served as a valuable platform for students to gain a closer look at the industrial world and real challenges in the era of technological convergence. With insights into IT–OT convergence, cybersecurity, and information system infrastructure, students are expected to be better prepared to face future digital transformation. Special thanks to PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) for its collaboration and contribution in sharing valuable knowledge and experiences with the academic community of the Information Systems Study Program at Universitas Riau.
