The Computer Science Department of Riau University actively participated in organizing the 8th International Conference on Science and Technology (ICST 2025), which was held as a hybrid session on July 19, 2025. The conference brought together a number of academics and researchers from within and outside the country to discuss strategic issues and the latest developments in science and technology.
One session that captured the attention of conference participants was the presentation by invited speaker Prof. Dr. Azlan bin Mohd Zain (Universiti Malaya, Malaysia), who presented a topic entitled: "The Role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Computer Vision."
In his presentation, Prof. Azlan comprehensively reviewed how developments in artificial intelligence (AI) have revolutionized computer vision technology, from facial detection and medical image processing to real-time object recognition, to applications in autonomous vehicles and security systems. He also emphasized the importance of cross-disciplinary collaboration and big data-driven research to produce efficient and ethical AI solutions.
The session was moderated by Dr. Rahmad Kurniawan, ST, MIT, a lecturer and researcher from the Department of Computer Science at the University of Riau, led an interactive discussion between the speakers and conference participants.
"This topic is highly relevant to today's technological challenges and opportunities. We hope participants will gain new insights and forge further research collaborations," said Dr. Rahmad in his remarks.
This international conference serves as an important platform for the exchange of ideas, the presentation of research results, and the strengthening of academic networks between universities and research institutions from various countries. It is hoped that the contributions of academics like Prof. Azlan can inspire the development of research and technological innovation, particularly in the fields of AI and computer vision in Indonesia.
