As part of its ongoing commitment to improving the quality of education and producing competent graduates who are relevant to the needs of the workforce, the Information Systems Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Riau, routinely reviews and updates its curriculum every four years. This activity demonstrates efforts to improve academic quality, aligning with the study program's vision and mission to produce outstanding graduates in the field of information systems who are able to compete nationally and globally.

In 2023, the Information Systems Study Program implemented a curriculum update by adopting the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) approach and aligning it with the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) policy launched by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia. The OBE approach emphasizes the achievement of measurable learning outcomes, while the MBKM policy provides ample opportunity for students to develop competencies outside their study program through internships, humanitarian projects, student exchanges, research, and entrepreneurship.

In the process of developing and refining this curriculum, the Information Systems Study Program involved various relevant parties as a form of implementing a multi-stakeholder approach. Contributing parties include internal elements from the University of Riau, professional associations such as the Indonesian Computer, Electronics, and Instrumentation Support Society (IndoCEISS) Riau Region, and industry partners, including PT. Garuda Cyber Indonesia (GCI). The involvement of partners from industry and professional associations is expected to ensure the curriculum aligns with the latest information technology developments and real-world needs.

Furthermore, the latest curriculum structure has been aligned with the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (KKNI) level 6, which serves as the standard learning outcomes for undergraduate graduates. This curriculum covers various fields relevant to the Information Systems discipline, such as systems analysis and design, database management, web-based and mobile application development, information technology governance, and artificial intelligence and data analysis.

The evaluation and development of the 2023 curriculum were also carried out with due regard to the vision and mission of the Information Systems Study Program, as stated in the Decree of the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Number 064/UN19.5.1.1.3/EP/2020. This vision affirms the Information Systems Study Program's commitment to becoming a leading study program in the development and implementation of research-based information systems, with national competitiveness, and contributing to regional and national development.

With this curriculum update, the Information Systems Study Program at the University of Riau hopes to create a more adaptive, collaborative, and competency-oriented learning process, while strengthening the relationship between academia and industry. Going forward, this curriculum is expected to serve as a solid foundation for producing innovative, professional, and highly integrated graduates capable of facing the challenges of the ever-evolving digital transformation era.
