Four students from the University of Riau (UNRI) participated in the Data Analytics Camp 2025, organized by Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia. The 13-day event, from October 20 to November 1, 2025, included participants from several universities, including UNRI, ITS, UIN Alauddin, UNITAR, and UiTM itself.

The group of four UNRI students—one Computer Science student, two Statistics students, and one Mathematics student—arrived in Malaysia on October 20 and was welcomed by Prof. Zia, the Program Director. They were housed at Crystal College, Shah Alam, which serves as a dormitory for international and local students at UiTM.

Series of Activities

The official event began on October 21 with an Opening Ceremony and a tour of UiTM's Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics (FSKM). The following day was filled with an intensive four-day Data Analytics workshop, covering the following topics:

Fundamentals of Data Analytics,

Exploratory Data Analysis,

Data Pre-processing,

Model Development and Evaluation (Classification & Regression), and

Case Studies using the Python programming language.

In addition to learning on campus, participants also had the opportunity to visit the SAS Malaysia office at Menara IQ, Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) to participate in the SAS VIYA Workshop, a software tool for data analysis and management.

The weekend continued with the Malaysia Cultural Heritage Camp at Haji Dorani Homestay in Sungai Besar. Participants stayed with host families and participated in cultural activities such as batik painting, playing kompang, catching catfish, and learning to make roti canai. These activities provided valuable insights into Malaysian culture and life.

Dashboard Collaboration and Competition

On October 27, participants participated in the Power BI Workshop at UNITAR International University, one of UiTM's academic partners. The event continued with a Dashboard Competition on October 29. In the competition, participants from various universities were divided into five mixed-gender groups to create dashboards based on the provided dataset.

Group 2 of UNRI students won second runner-up (3rd place) in the competition. This achievement is a source of pride for UNRI's Computer Science Department on the international stage.

Closing Ceremony and Participant Impressions

The event concluded with a Closing Ceremony on October 31, 2025, featuring cultural performances from each university and the presentation of certificates to all participants. The UNRI delegation returned to Indonesia on November 1, 2025.

One participant expressed her deep impression of the warm welcome from UiTM:

"I truly appreciate the UiTM team for their warm welcome and kindness. They made us feel comfortable and made the whole experience unforgettable and truly special."

The 2025 Data Analytics Camp not only broadened UNRI students' academic horizons in the field of data analysis but also strengthened the international relationship between UNRI and UiTM as educational partners in the ASEAN region.
