The Computer Science Department of Riau University once again presented an inspiring guest lecture. This time, the guest lecturer was Dedi Wilantara from Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR), a practitioner with over 12 years of experience in IT Business Analysis, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning in the oil and gas industry.
On this occasion, Mr. Dedi presented on the implementation of machine learning at PHR, specifically how intelligent technology is used to optimize processes in the upstream oil and gas sector. He also shared real-world experiences in developing data science platforms, automating workflows, and implementing exception management in highly complex industrial environments.

The guest lecture was also attended by the Head of the Computer Science Department, Tisha Melia, B.Sc, M.Sc, Ph.D., and the Secretary of the Department, Fatayat, S.Kom., M.Kom. The presence of these department leaders further emphasized the importance of synergy between academics and practitioners in enriching students' knowledge.
The lecture was highly interactive. Students demonstrated high enthusiasm, asking numerous questions about the application of machine learning in real-world industries, including the challenges and opportunities. The lively discussion between the students and Mr. Dedi reflected their enthusiasm for learning and keen curiosity, while also opening new insights into how the knowledge learned in college can be applied in the workplace.

With this guest lecture, it is hoped that Computer Science students will be further motivated to develop their competencies in machine learning and be prepared to face the challenges of the digital age, particularly in the context of the needs of the national energy industry.
